A Japanenglish Special Delivery

So it’s kind of obvious that Japanenglish is a slang term like Spanglish, combining the Japanese and English language, which is exactly what Tigarah writes, records and voices on the mic. Being moved by a number of music genres, Tigarah’s eclectic sound delivers cultural influenced topics, with a scent of conscious tendencies. Her track title “Space Travel” is filled with infectious beats that indeed took me on a ride, wishing that Japanese was a second language. In some parts of the track I hear a new wave come-back and can see this easily becoming a night club hit. Radio wise, I foresee dance and multi-format programmed stations picking this track up.

The title of the record deserves the title of this post. Michael Zapruder and SideCho Records brings a lyrical filled track titled “Ads For Feelings” with the added amusement of a music video that has been produced in perfect synch with the overall composition. Michael, who also is a curator over at Pandora.com, has created this melodic track with Scott Solter (producer and mixer, that has worked with Spoon and Mountain Goat) to establish a harmonic convergence of words and musicianship. With an Indie-Folkie sound, this track is an Internet radio station’s dream that programs matured indie music with an eclectic feel.

Reid This

Music Genre: Hip-Hop

The Voice of The Common Wealth, a.k.a. Thad Reid brings forth classic Hip-Hop roots to the people. Leave your candy rappers at home kids, and feed on Reid’s vocal reasoning to be on the mic. This DC area b-boy slash entrepreneur brings a professional delivery to clean out any commercial ear wax that may be clogging your brain. Not to say Thad doesn’t have any commercial potential (because he does); though commercial radio needs a sense of balance between hip-hop and hip-pop, in which track title ‘The Reason’ can rejuvenate for broadcast. Production behind ‘The Reason’ sends a positive hip-hop vibe for any season, and has radio-ready written all over it, with proof from both continued college and Internet radio support. ‘The Reason’ is currently #3 on the famous Rap Attack Top 30 Chart.

From The Land of Aus to Tokyo

Music Genre: Rock

Hey mates! It seems that the pink loggers over at hushhush ATTACK! has vested interest in tunes coming out of Australia these days. The band, Birds of Tokyo from the land of Aus flew my way this past week where I captured their new release titled Universes. Though I heard that one must see these lads perform live in order to see their true talent, I witnessed their remarkable musicianship shine right through this album project, containing infected lyrics that keep the mind’s camera rolling. With Uno introducing tracks like Broken Bones and Wild Eyed Boy, both tracks are definitely radio-ready. My heart was set on Wild Eyed Boy as the feature here for programming and/or editorial consideration, plus the music video is pretty wild and well produced. If you had not heard of this band yet outside of OpenMusicWire.com, you will …

Check out their great musicianship live this week at SXSW in Austin, Texas:

March 19 @ 10pm | Friends Bar
March 20 @ 6pm | Aussie BBQ
March 21 @ 5pm | BD Riley’s Pub

Modern Jazzmatazz

Music Genre: Modern Jazz

By: Josh East

It’s been a joy to hear Guru’s Jazzmatazz series throughout the years, but let’s bring it back to the modern jazz essence here. Not kickin’ Gurru to the curb in any way, as he and Primo have brought some major love to the hip-hop, soul and nu-jazz community. As we “Look At What The Cat’s Brought In”, which happens to be the title to Vol.1 of The Modern Jazz Stylings of Blue Canoe Records, this collective comprises of both young and veteran jazz musicians. The label has been kind enough to provide 10 of 12 tracks as a free download offer, making it tough to find that key track for programming and/or editorial consideration. Each track is professionally produced and sets off its own mood, though one stands out from the rest. Since I’m more of the vocal jazz cat, track 5 titled “What About April” resonates well with me. Take it for a spin. You won’t be disappointed.
