Universes – Another S.U.N. Classic

Posted on 31-Dec-10 02:04
Music Genre: Hip-Hop

Hip-Hop MC Veteran S.U.N. (Scientific Universal Noncommercial) in these past few years has put the breaks on his music catalog, meaning that the WWW had no access to it --- not until recently. Out of his five full-lengths, his 2006 underground classic release titled “Uni-verses” covers a handful of Hip-Hop/Soul tracks for the conscious ear. This clever concept record delivers “one-verse” per track that merges soulful and jazzistic beats to put your mind at ease. Out of the 22 tracks, five of the following titles should be reviewed for programming consideration: (1) ‘Be With You’, (2) ‘Searchin’, (3) ‘93 Miles Away’, (4) ‘Look’, and (5) ‘Be Original’. The remaining tracks also deserve to be listened to, as it’s a constant groove. In a nutshell, the mood of ‘Universes’ reflects all that has influenced S.U.N.’s writings over the past 10 years.

Demo Days

Posted on 04-Dec-10 01:39
Music Genre: Pop | Jazz | Alternative

Before the release of their next album ‘The Sun Will Rise’ (set for Spring 2011), the band Two Spot Gobi quietly revealed a collection of their fan’s best gems that were not featured on the first release ‘Everywhere You Should Have Been’. The band cherry-picked each track from their demo EP’s spanning the last five years, thus making sense in calling this concept release ‘Demo Days’. This album has a handful of wonderful organic pop n’ jazz driven melodic tracks and four of the nine tracks have been chosen for programming consideration; (1) Life Line, (2) That Thing, (3) Melodious Star, and (4) Four Walls.

Below you can also see a live video performance of track title “Senses” (also on the Demo Days) that was broadcast live on ExtraTV.com, Glam.com and Variety.com from the 2009 Leeza Gibbons’ Oscar Night After Party – sponsored by Gibson and Channel M. Also worth noting, TSG has recently launched a high school and college music program in the UK called ‘Music Set Free’. The program is being sponsored by Bose, where they perform live and schedule workshops for select schools. The program will also hit the US in 2011 – so any schools and music departments interested in having the band, more info is available here.

Phoenix Juggernaut Rising

Posted on 08-Jun-10 15:58
Music Genre: Urban/Rhythmic | Soul

Song Writer and Producer veteran Bryan Cogshell digitally released his first album titled “The Truth According To the Cat” in 2000, which generated 28,000+ units on MP3.com. More recently, Bryan turned recording artist Phoenix Juggernaut for the release of his second album titled “Hustle for Love”, set to release this summer of 2010. The album contains an eclectic blend of soulful treats that already gained support from Music Choice, programming track titles “Head First”, “Jack Tyes”, and “Would It Be Cool” in their R&B / Soul channel. Even though Phoenix Juggernaut brings a traditional R&B sound to the plate, songs like “Jack Tyes”, “Warlock Spell” and “Will It Work?” leans more on an underground vibe with original lyrics that need to be reckoned with. To add more of a twist, track title “Love Will Never Let Me Down” establishes more of a mainstream sound, with an island influence for the summer. Enjoy!

You Make It Easy

Posted on 28-May-10 17:21
Music Genre: Pop | Rock

In late summer 2009, U.K. band Two Spot Gobi travelled to Jason Mraz's San Diego home studio to record for several months with Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Sting, My Morning Jacket). After building enthusiastic and loyal support on the West Coast following a handful of California shows, they returned with their second studio album The Sun Will Rise, set for release in late 2010.

Two Spot Gobi's sunshine sound is perfect for the summer as the band releases their new single You Make It Easy this coming June 14th on IRL-MusiK1. The single highlights irresistibly acoustic and upbeat vibes that garner a myriad of eclectic influences from alternative rock, blues, jazz and ska, drawing comparisons with The Police, Jack Johnson, Elbow, Nick Drake and the energy of Jamiroquai.

A Fresh Blend of Electroniclecticity

Posted on 08-Feb-10 17:37
Music Genre: Electro | Indie | Pop

To quote Jay Cunning, “Minuit will do what The Crystal Method and Nubreed did for their countries …. Put New Zealand firmly on the dance scenes map.” So as I read Jay sliding in this positive note, I must agree that Minuit has something that the crossover electronica ears should be listening too. The blend is like drinking red grapefruit, kiwi and raspberry, with your choice of liquor of course … quit exotic, yet balanced for the eclectic head. Though track title “I’m Still Dancing” recently appeared on Grey’s Anatomy (Feb. 4, 2010), we have chosen radio single “Wayho” for the free download offer. Programmers must take notice, in case you have slept.

Music Genre: Jazz | R&B

Santa Monica, CA based label Hidden Beach Recordings has created yet another successful record for the Unwrapped series titled under ‘Unwrapped Vol.6 – Give The Drummer Some” that reached the #1 spot within the contemporary jazz radio format back in November. But this is no elevator music, as Hidden Beach brought drummer extraordinaire Tony Royster Jr. on board (who recently toured with Jay-Z) to bring the beat, and the heat. Under v6, #1 chart topper “Blame It” performed by Jamie Foxx feat. T-Pain has been officially Unwrapped for all to download. This has got to be the best ‘Blame It’ remixes for crossover pop/urban/jazz radio programmers made available to date.

Music Genre: Hip-Hop

If you ever had a “No More Monday” moment going back to work, then we have the anthem for you, especially for radio programming consideration. We’re talking about the lyrical brilliance of C.H.A.Z.Z., who has an entire album based on “Cubicle Muzik”, which is the title of his new release, specifically battling our work trials and tribulations. However, the only gospel here is real lyrical work ethics, ready to be witnessed. Take it for a spin, download it for free, and let us know what you think.
